What to buy in November

Quick Answer: In November 2026, buy TVs, headphones, laptops, game consoles, small kitchen appliances, vacuums and tools, mostly between Black Friday (Nov. 27) and Cyber Monday (Nov. 30). Skip jewelry, bedding, mattresses, furniture and fitness equipment, and hold off on winter coats unless you need one now. Most of these get cheaper between January and March.

Last updated October 22, 2026. Prices rechecked weekly through November 30. Here's what to buy and skip in November 2026, which stores to watch and the dates to shop each category. Black Friday falls on November 27 this year. Plenty of the best prices show up weeks before that. And a fair number of the "deals" you'll see this month are older prices with a new red tag. I checked that myself this week, and one popular TV was at its highest price in 30 days while stacked with promo offers. More on that below.

Key November 2026 Shopping Dates

Black Friday isn't a day anymore. Retailers now open their "early Black Friday" events in the first or second week of November, and some of them run the same prices more than once. Here's the calendar I'm working from. Dates marked expected are based on past years and will be updated as stores confirm them.

What to Buy in November 2026

Everything on this list usually hits its lowest price of the year in November, or close enough that waiting isn't worth it. As the price check below shows, a sale badge doesn't guarantee it, so check the specific model. For each one you'll find when to buy and the trap to watch for.

1. TVs

This is the category Black Friday was built on, and the discounts are real. Mostly. When I spot-checked prices for this guide, a popular TCL 55" Mini-LED model was listed at $549.99, which turned out to be the most it had cost in 30 days (its range was $449.99 to $549.99). The promo offers stacked on the page sat on the highest price it had carried all month. Always check the model's own recent history before you trust the listing.

The other catch is a quiet one. Some TVs sold during Black Friday are made just for the sale. They look like the regular model and carry a similar name, but the model number is slightly different, and the cheaper version can have fewer HDMI ports, a dimmer panel or a slower processor. Before you buy, search the exact model number. If it doesn't show up on the manufacturer's regular product page, ask yourself why.

Best moment: Black Friday week, Nov. 23 to 30. Last year's mid-range models drop the most. If you can wait, high-end TVs sometimes dip again in January as stores clear room for new models.
Watch out for: Sale-only model numbers, and "deals" that sit at the model's normal price.

2. Headphones and Earbuds

Flagship noise-canceling headphones usually hit their yearly low in late November. That's when last year's premium pair beats this year's mid-range pair on price, and usually on sound too. This category can produce real deals even now: a popular Sony noise-canceling pair was at $88.00 when I checked, its lowest price in 30 days, down from a $149.00 recent high.

Best moment: Nov. 20 to 30.
Watch out for: "Lowest price ever" badges that only count the past 30 days.

3. Laptops and Tablets

Buy one generation behind. The newest models get small discounts at best. The previous version (often only slightly slower) gets the deep cuts, because stores want it gone. For Apple gear especially, you'll almost always find a better price at a big-box store or Amazon than at Apple itself.

Best moment: Black Friday through Cyber Monday.
Watch out for: Budget laptops with 8GB of RAM or less. A cheap laptop that crawls in 18 months isn't a deal.

4. Game Consoles and Bundles

The best value is usually a bundle: a console plus a game or a few months of a subscription, for close to the price of the console alone. You rarely see that combination outside November.

Best moment: Black Friday.
Watch out for: Bundles packed with games nobody in your house wants.

5. Small Kitchen Appliances

Stand mixers, air fryers, espresso machines, slow cookers. Black Friday is when the big kitchen brands put out their best prices, and stores use these as loss leaders to get you in the door. Check the recent history, though: one air fryer I looked at carried a "-39% off list" tag at $84.95, but it had actually sold for $69.99 within the same month.

Best moment: Nov. 20 to 30.
Watch out for: Off-brand look-alikes priced close to the name-brand sale, and "percent off list" tags that hide a lower recent price.

6. Vacuums

Robot vacuums and cordless stick vacuums see some of their steepest markdowns of the year in November. Last year's robot models are the sweet spot.

Best moment: Black Friday week.
Watch out for: Robot vacuums that skip self-emptying bases or mapping to hit a price point. Check what's actually in the box.

7. Personal Care and Beauty Sets

Electric toothbrushes, hair dryers, razors and beauty gift sets are discounted all month. Gift sets especially, since stores need them sold before the holidays.

Best moment: Any time in November.

8. Tools

Drills, socket sets and tool kits get heavy Black Friday discounts at the home-improvement chains. Combo kits (a drill and driver with batteries) tend to be the best value.

Best moment: Black Friday week.

9. Thanksgiving Groceries (in Stages)

This one isn't about Black Friday at all. It's about timing your grocery runs. Prices for Thanksgiving foods move on different calendars, so one big trip the weekend before costs you.
  • Now through the first week of November: Stuffing mix, canned pumpkin, broth and cranberry sauce. Shelf-stable staples hit their lowest prices from late October through early November.
  • Nov. 16 to 19: The turkey. Grocery stores often sell fresh turkeys at a loss 7 to 10 days before Thanksgiving to bring you in for everything else.
  • Thanksgiving week: Fresh produce and dairy. The one exception is butter. It freezes well, so stock up if it goes on sale earlier.

10. Discounted Gift Cards and Subscriptions

Some of the simplest savings of the month. Over Black Friday weekend, a lot of stores and restaurants offer bonus gift cards (buy $50, get a $10 card), and streaming and software services discount annual plans. If you were going to spend that money anyway, this is close to free money. Just don't buy a gift card for a store you never visit.

What to Skip in November 2026 (and When to Buy Instead)

A November sale doesn't mean November is the cheapest month. These items have a better month coming, sometimes only a few weeks away.

Jewelry

Demand peaks right before the holidays (a lot of engagements happen in December), so retailers have little reason to discount. Wait until after Valentine's Day, when demand drops off.

Bedding, Mattresses and Furniture

You'll see "Black Friday mattress sales" everywhere. Look closely and the discount is often the same one the store runs most of the year. Buy sheets and towels during January white sales, and a mattress over Presidents Day weekend.

Fitness Equipment

Retailers know you'll want a treadmill on January 2. That's exactly when they discount them.

Winter Coats: Buy or Skip?

Here's where the advice online contradicts itself. Some guides tell you to buy coats on Black Friday. Others say wait.

My verdict: if you need a coat now, buy a basic one from a mainstream brand on Black Friday. The discounts are decent and you'll use it all season. If your current coat still works, wait. The deepest markdowns come in January through March, when stores clear winter stock.

Toys: Buy Early or Wait?

Same split here. My rule: buy the one or two toys you're sure will sell out (this year's hot item) during the early-November sales. For everything else, wait until early to mid December, when stores start cutting prices on whatever isn't selling. Those markdowns are covered in the what to buy in December guide.

Christmas Decorations and Holiday Flights

Decorations cost the most when they're in season, and they're half off (or more) after December 25. Flights go the other way. If you haven't booked holiday travel yet, don't wait for a sale. Book now.

How to Tell a Real November Deal From a Fake One

Some prices creep up in October so the November "sale" looks bigger. Before you check out, run three quick checks:
  1. Was it on your list before the sale? A discount on something you didn't plan to buy is still spending.
  2. Is it the regular model number? Especially for TVs and laptops. See the sale-only model trap above.
  3. Does the price history show a real drop? Paste the product link into a free price tracker and look at the past 90 days, not just the past 30.
To show how differently those checks can land, I pulled four "on sale" electronics on Amazon on October 22, 2026 and compared each one's advertised price to its own 30-day history. Two were at their 30-day low. Two were not, and the TV, the category Black Friday is built on, was actually at its highest price in 30 days:
Item "Sale" Price 30-Day Range At Its 30-Day Low?
TCL 55" QM64L Mini-LED 4K TV$549.99$449.99 to $549.99No, at its 30-day HIGH
CHEFMAN 10L Air Fryer, "-39%"$84.95$69.99 to $99.99No, hit $69.99 this month
Sony WH-CH720N Headphones, "-51%"$88.00$88.00 to $149.00Yes
Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSD, "-27%"$799.90$799.90 to $979.99Yes
A 30-day low is a good sign, not proof. Before you buy, check the 90-day history too, since a price can be the lowest this month but still higher than it was earlier in the year.

The TV is the one to sit with. It carried a run of promo offers, yet $549.99 was the most it had cost in 30 days, and its own range shows it hit $449.99 earlier in the month. The headphones and the SSD wore big "-51%" and "-27%" tags too, but there the price history backed them up: both were sitting at their lowest point of the month. That's the whole point. The discount sticker doesn't tell you which is which. The price history does.

How I Checked These Prices

I check Amazon prices against their full history with Keepa and CamelCamelCamel, and compare other retailers by hand against their recent prices rather than trusting the store's crossed-out "list" price. The four products in the table above were checked on Amazon on October 22, 2026. This guide is updated weekly through Cyber Monday as stores confirm their dates and deals.

November Shopping FAQ

When do Black Friday 2026 sales start?

Black Friday itself is November 27, 2026, but most big retailers start earlier. Target's daily deals start November 1, and its Early Black Friday Sale runs November 5 to 7. Amazon's Black Friday Week usually opens about a week before Black Friday. Many early prices match what you'll see on the day itself.

Is it better to buy on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

For TVs, game consoles and in-store doorbusters, Black Friday usually wins. Cyber Monday is often better for laptops, smaller electronics and online-only retailers. For most items the prices overlap, so if you see a good price on either day, take it.

What is the cheapest month to buy a TV?

November, specifically Black Friday week, is the best time for most people, especially for last year's mid-range models. Just check the exact model's price history first, since some TVs carry a sale listing at their normal or even highest recent price. High-end TVs sometimes dip again in January and February, when stores clear space for new models.

Should I buy toys on Black Friday or wait?

Buy the hot toys you're worried will sell out during the early November sales. For everything else, waiting until the first two weeks of December usually gets you a lower price, because stores discount whatever isn't moving.

What should you not buy on Black Friday?

Jewelry, mattresses, bedding, furniture, fitness equipment and this year's newest phones. Each of these is reliably cheaper later: bedding and fitness gear in January, mattresses on Presidents Day, and jewelry after Valentine's Day.
